A hot spring inn that harmonizes with the nature of Hakone GoraLaforet Hakone Gora Yunosu AyakanWe'll be staying at "[Hotel Name]". That evening, we'll enjoy a special summer dinner course at "Shunsai Kura," the dining room in the main building.

We left our dog, Chocolat, in the room and headed to the main building for a relaxed dinner for adults only.

Dining "Shunsai Kura" | A space where the tranquility of Japanese tradition blends with modern design.
As the restaurant's name, "Shunsai Kura" (meaning "seasonal vegetable storehouse"), suggests, the ingredients are carefully selected for their seasonality, and the cooking methods change to reflect the changing seasons. The interior is a modern Japanese space that combines the warmth of wood with stylish Western elements, quietly deepening the lingering memories of your trip. Dinner is served in two sittings, at 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM, and we chose the leisurely 7:30 PM start.

The course menu, which fuses seasonal ingredients with Japanese and Western techniques,
Not only is it visually appealing, but its light flavor will also enhance your evening in Hakone.

A toast with our special summer course and summer wine pairings.
This evening's dinner was a "special" course consisting of six dishes, from appetizer to dessert.

We ordered pairing wines to go with the dishes, and enjoyed sparkling, white, and red wines by the glass in that order.
"Three-Pairing Set (100ml each)" ¥3,500

We started with sparkling wine to go with the appetizers.

"Chisinauru Veki Spumant Brut/
Chisinaul Vechi Spumant Brut”

Let's toast with this dry sparkling wine from Moldovan, whose elegant effervescence is delightfully refreshing!

Appetizer: Assortment of three kinds of sashimi / Edamame tofu, Izu wasabi pickles and caviar /
Escabeche of sweetfish with Soga plums from Odawara.

These appetizers have a refreshing appearance.
The three-item platter, centered around seasonal fish sashimi, includes live shrimp from Shizuoka Prefecture, Mt. Fuji salmon, and amberjack.
The heads of the live shrimp are deep-fried, so you can enjoy their savory aroma.
The sticky and smooth texture of the edamame tofu can be enjoyed along with the aroma of wasabi.
The tartness of the plum in this ayu (sweetfish) escabeche is sure to whet your appetite, making it the perfect summer appetizer!
Each bite offers a different texture and aroma, making it an excellent pairing with sparkling wine before a meal.

"Alpha Zeta 'C' Chardonnay"
This Chardonnay boasts a firm acidity, with bitterness and fruitiness adding complexity, and a rich, lingering finish that is fresh and well-balanced.

Soup dish: "Pureed white corn soup with popcorn and kataifi pastry"
The chilled soup, served in a glass bowl, is a sweet and refreshing puree of white corn.
The dish is accented with kataifi pastry resembling corn silk and popcorn.
The refreshing sensation and rich flavor spread throughout your mouth, leaving you feeling refreshed even in your mind.

Fish dish: "Simmered sea bream with Gotemba Amano soy sauce and yuzu pepper flavor"
The simmered sea bream is infused with a sweet and savory sauce, and the aroma of yuzu pepper adds a delightful accent.
The eggplant served as a side dish also has a deeply satisfying flavor.

Next up, a glass of red wine to go with the meat dish.

"Les Vignobles Fontanel Pays d'Oc Pinot Noir 2023/
"Les Fontanelles Pays d'Oc Pinot Noir 2023"
This Pinot Noir has subtle tannins and a firm fruitiness, making it easy to drink.

Meat dish: Grilled domestic beef fillet with fresh ginger and white balsamic sauce.
The juicy, tender fillet steak is cut into bite-sized pieces that are easy to eat with chopsticks.
As a palate cleanser, I enjoy Hakone tofu dengaku, which is served with plenty of sweet miso paste.

The clam rice dish served with the meal was a delightful surprise, as it was presented alongside the main meat dish.
Of course, I like to dive the meat into rice.

You can enjoy unlimited refills of both the seasoned rice and the separate broth, allowing you to savor it in a chazuke (rice with broth) style.

I topped the seasoned rice with beef fillet, poured broth over it, and created a "hitsumabushi" style dish!
The rice was so smooth and easy to eat, like ochazuke (rice with tea poured over it), that we both ended up asking for seconds.

Dessert: Yogurt mousse with mint-flavored melon sauce
For dessert, we enjoyed a refreshing yogurt mousse with a pleasant tartness, paired with a juicy melon sauce.
For our after-dinner drinks, I chose rosehip and my husband chose chamomile.
Relax and unwind with a fragrant herbal tea.
