"Ozoni (rice cake soup) with freshly pounded mochi" ×Mt. Sukunaga"Tree ring thin bowl"
In Japan, mochi (rice cakes) are offered to the gods (Toshigami) on New Year's Day.
And by sharing and eating that mochi with family,
It is believed that by receiving divine protection and blessings, one can achieve a bountiful harvest and prosperity in that year.
The year-end eventMochi-making eventWe were given some freshly made mochi at "[location]",
The mochi is grilled first, and then it's used to make ozoni (a type of Japanese soup with mochi).
The ingredients used are chosen for their colorful appearance, including taro, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, mitsuba (Japanese parsley), and snow peas.
Since the freshly made mochi was soft, I decided against making a stewed type of ozoni (rice cake soup).
Choosing the more refined style was the right decision!

"Homemade smoked duck ham" ×Mt. Sukunaga"Black Glazed Petri Dish, Reversible"
I bought a 350g block of domestic duck breast, made incisions in the skin, marinated it with salt and herbs, and let it rest.
Place the ingredients in a Ziploc bag with olive oil to create a vacuum seal, then cook in a rice cooker at a low temperature of 65°C for about 30 minutes.
After that, leave it in the refrigerator overnight in the Ziploc bag.
Before eating, lightly warm it in the microwave so that it's not cooked through, and then grill only the skin side until it's nice and crispy.
The result is a moist, tender, and juicy ham.
