"Pambuces," a popular bakery in Gamagori, Aichi Prefecture, is located in a renovated old house and values the natural flavors of its ingredients.

Opened in 2017 after renovating an old house, this popular bakery in Gamagori is supported by local fans for its reasonably priced breads that emphasize the natural flavors of the ingredients, including hard-crust breads and loaves of bread.Pampuses」。

On my way back to Hamamatsu from Mikawa, passing through Gamagori, I was drawn to a cute shopfront, and when I realized it was a bakery, I couldn't resist the temptation and immediately made a U-turn.

Here, on the right, there is a small bakeryPampusesThere is a hair salon and nail salon run by a friend.Hair & Nail RapuchiThere is a parking lot, and it is shared.

I visited around 3 PM, and thankfully, perhaps because it was raining, there were still enough options left to choose from.

The baker husbandKunio YamamotoDuring his apprenticeship, Mr. [Name] traveled to France many times to study diligently before becoming independent. Because he used to wear glasses, the shop's catchphrase was named "The Baker with Glasses," and the shop name "Painbyses" is not "Pain-byses" but simply "Painbyses," a neologism coined from the Japanese one-shot manga "Cambyses' Lottery" (*) by Hiroshi Fujimoto of Fujiko Fujio. (*) "Cambyses' Lottery" is an epic science fiction short manga that questions the meaning of human existence through the lives of a man and woman in a post-apocalyptic world.

I was having trouble deciding which one to choose, and as I was peering at the bread, they offered me a sample. When I asked if they were a couple, they said they were getting married soon, which is wonderful news!

This bread, which looks incredibly fluffy, is called "Brown Rice and Mixed Grains with Domestic Wheat Bread."

Every loaf of bread looks delicious and appealing. What's truly surprising is the incredibly reasonable price of each loaf. The shop has no pretentious atmosphere, and the simple, easy-to-understand names of the breads make them very approachable.

I chose my bread with the intention of taking it home and eating it the next morning, and I also picked up the bread that was recommended to me, but the owner's wife was cute and good at sales (lol).

Although the selection was limited, the most popular item was apparently the fluffy and soft "white bread," so I decided to have it for breakfast the next morning. Normally, if you buy six different kinds of bread at a bakery, you'd expect it to cost around ¥2,000, but here the total came to a mere ¥1,134, which made me do a double-take. For a bread lover like me who wants to eat bread every day, this is a very welcome price.

I returned home,Mameya CafeI brew coffee using the coffee beans from [brand name] and snack on some sweet pastries.

Chocolate Croissant ¥120

The "Chocolate Croissant" features a light and fluffy croissant with a chocolate stick inside. Its small size is just right.

"Anko Butter French Bread" ¥190

Made with the same French flour (100%) used in baguettes. Although it's a hard-crusted bread, the outside isn't too hard, and the inside is soft and chewy. The red bean paste filling has a gentle sweetness, and the thick layer of butter gives it a sweet and salty flavor, making it a very satisfying snack bread.

"Brown rice and mixed grain bread with domestic wheat" ¥100

I had the opportunity to sample this bread. It has a gentle aroma of wheat, a pleasant texture from brown rice and other grains, and a simple flavor. It's fluffy and easy to eat as a meal bread, and above all, the price of ¥100 makes it great value for money, making it an excellent choice for everyday bread.

"Chewy Custard" ¥180

Another item recommended by my wife is this "Mochi Mochi Custard." The name emphasizes the "mochi" (chewy) texture, and it lives up to expectations with its chewy consistency—a texture that women are sure to love. It's filled with plenty of gently sweet custard.

"Chewy White Bread 1/2" ¥220

This is a half-size loaf of their most popular "chewy bread." When you hold it, you can feel its fluffy softness. I lightly toasted it, and it was moist and chewy thanks to its high moisture content. This softness is loved by a wide range of people, from young children to the elderly.

"Walnuts and Orange" ¥240

The bread, made with French bread dough and kneaded with flavorful walnuts and refreshing oranges, is "Z-shaped." "Customers often call it 'the S-shaped one,' but if you look closely, they're all 'Z-shaped'," the owner tweets on the shop's Instagram, and you can feel a heartwarming affection for the bread in his comment (lol). There isn't much explanation about the bread.PampusesThis is their Instagram account, and you might get a glimpse into the personality of the baker husband♪
