this year2014春に11th yearFukuroi's popular shop "IZA CAFE coo-kai?Koki Takehara, the owner of "coo-kai?", has been dreaming of expanding his shop for about three years, and has decided to open a shop next to "coo-kai?" that serves authentic Neapolitan pizzas made in a wood-fired oven.Pizzeria Attico! The restaurant opened with pizzaiolo (pizza chef) Shinji Ishida. The storefront, with its lattice glass that gives a glimpse of the warm atmosphere inside, is covered in green tiles, overflowing with greenery, and piles of firewood, creating a charming storefront that makes you feel like you're in Southern Italy. Attico had been in soft opening since March 20th,Tuesday, April 1, 2014We were invited to a reception party held the night before the grand opening, and my husband and I attended!

As soon as you enter the shop, a gigantic wood-fired oven comes into view, its weight of approximately 1.5 tons giving it a solid and imposing presence. Because it's a brand-new wood-fired oven, delivered only in February, the firing process is being carried out carefully, taking about a week to remove moisture and prepare it to withstand high temperatures. Apparently, if it were fired at high heat while moisture was still present, cracks would appear everywhere, and the oven could even crumble into pieces! (Amazing!) The wood-fired oven has completed its preliminary preparations for firing, but it hasn't been decorated yet, displaying its simple stone color. However, the owner, Ko-san, has designed and will be applying colored tiles that perfectly suit the oven, so that's something to look forward to. And the long chimney extending from the wood-fired oven onto the wall facing the road, where the entrance to coo-kai? is located, will become a new symbol of this shop!

First up, a photo of owner Koki (left) and pizzaiolo Ishida (right) together!

Attico means "attic" in Italian. Climbing the stairs leads to a secluded room that feels like an attic, perfect for adults. The seating here is comfortable sofa seating, allowing you to enjoy your meal in a relaxed atmosphere. Furthermore, a small window allows you to peek inside coo-kai?, and peeking through it is sure to appeal to the inner child within you.

And looking down into the restaurant from the attic, you can see the wood-fired oven. You can also watch as pizzaiolo (pizza chef) Shinji Ishida meticulously prepares the pizzas♪

While waiting for your pizza, watching pizzaiolo Ishida's skillful techniques as he bakes it is another way to enjoy the pizzeria experience. It only takes about 90 seconds to bake one pizza in the high-temperature wood-fired oven, and he finishes it without taking his eyes off it. He expertly manipulates the long stick (pale) to create a delicious, piping hot pizza!

"Siciliana" 1,080 yen Tomato sauce, oregano, anchovies, garlic, olives, capers, cherry tomatoes
This is apparently the pizza that pizzaiolo Ishida himself likes the most! He is particular about his ingredients, and even uses ingredients imported from Sicily, the home of pizza. You can enjoy the fragrant aroma of oregano and garlic, the perfect amount of saltiness from the anchovies and olives, the deliciousness of the fresh cherry tomatoes and the generous amount of tomato sauce, and of course the dough is Neapolitan style. The crust, called the cornicione, is chewy and fluffy. The dough, made with homemade yeast, has a great flavor, and it's lighter than typical Neapolitan pizza, so you could probably eat several slices. By the way, Ishida is quite shy and not very talkative, but once he starts talking about pizza, he can't stop (lol). I recommend listening to his passion and enjoying this delicious pizza even more!

In addition to these, there are eight other menu variations, including the "Girasole" (1,280 yen) with fresh cream, mozzarella, tuna, and corn, and the "Comprosciutto" with prosciutto, mozzarella, beany leaf lettuce, tomato sauce, and Parmesan cheese. This time, we all enjoyed sharing six different pizzas from the menu!

While Coo-kai? and Attico are usually closed on Mondays, on this particular day, a reception party was held, and close friends from Fukuroi, Iwata, and Hamamatsu gathered to celebrate the opening of Ko-san's new shop, creating a very lively atmosphere!

A three-shot photo of Mr. Kou's wife and their beloved daughters, Rie and Ririka! Ririka wasn't shy at all, and with her friendly and charming face, she gave us a big smile and gestures just like Peko-chan!

And now, after a string of happy events, the first son of the Takehara family has been born. This marks the unveiling of Takuto-kun!

Her innocent expression at just two months old is simply irresistible. A girl followed by a boy – truly the ideal family! Apparently, Ririka is already showing signs of being a big sister♪

The event concluded with a speech from the owner, Ko-san. He spoke with great delight about being surrounded by so many friends on this special day. Expanding the store will undoubtedly bring pressure, including training new staff and broadening the scope of acquiring new customers, but with Ko-san's exceptional business acumen and good fortune, there's nothing to worry about. We're really looking forward to his future success!

It was a wonderful evening, sharing authentic Neapolitan pizza while enjoying delicious drinks. Fukuroi has gained another great gathering place. I highly recommend the pizza made by pizzaiolo Ishida-kun to everyone! Thank you, Ko-san and Ishida-kun, for the delicious meal!
