Built in 1899 during the Japanese colonial period, this red brick building has shared a history with Tamsui Port for 117 years.Tamsui Red House"fart!
After restoration, the first floor now houses a creative Chinese restaurant, and the second floor is a banquet hall.
The third floor boasts a beautiful view overlooking Tamsui Harbor and is home to one of Tamsui's most popular cafes and restaurants!
After strolling along the Tamsui Promenade, I had brunch with Vanessa Kao at the "Red House," admiring the charming historical architecture!

As the second installment in our "Traveling with Ceramics" series, we feature two artists who are active in Toyama Prefecture but also achieve international recognition.
「Shimoo Design/Kazuhiko Shimoo&Saori Shitao"Wooden vessels and "Syouryu/Yoshinori ShimataniI'm traveling with my tinware!
My work was also featured at "Honglou," where they collaborated with me on creative Chinese cuisine that expresses the beautiful Eight Views of Tamsui!
The first dish was a giant boat-shaped platter called "Koyu Enho" (Lone Rain Smoke Sail).
This sashimi platter is named after the scene of a boat slowly making its way down a freshwater river on a rainy winter day.
You'll find a variety of fresh fish, including tuna, shellfish, herring roe, and crab, all caught that day at the freshwater port!
For the second dish, we had "Kannon Tomu," a sweet and spicy fried chicken dish with an addictive flavor.
They matched it to the "fuyou (Floating Series)" from "Shimoo Design," and the way they drew a Buddha in vermilion sauce in the margins gives it a distinctly Taiwanese feel.
Furthermore, the Oval-shaped Ukiyo series has been paired with "Sagisu Hantsuki," a dish featuring seasonal seafood!
This time, the dish was deep-fried soft-shell crab, fried shrimp and garlic,
The finely chopped chili peppers used as a seasoning sauce are meant to resemble the sandbar between Tanshui and Bali Riverbank,
The scenery of the freshwater harbor visible from here is reflected in the dishes, such as using egg yolks to represent a full moon!
For the third dish, they served a prototype spicy beef salad, not yet on the menu, paired with "Suzugami" from "Syouryu".
Because it's served cold, it looks refreshing. You can enjoy the tender beef, just the right amount of spiciness, and the texture of the onions, making it the perfect accompaniment to Taiwanese beer!
Among them, "Gyoko Teikage," made with rockfish, is my top recommendation; it's a light and fluffy boiled fish dish!
The creative Chinese cuisine, incorporating the unique charm of Tamsui, was absolutely delicious! Thank you everyone!
Manager Willy Huang will be guiding us through the town of Tamsui, which is within walking distance, and introducing us to local food in the evening!
The interior is full of charm and evokes a sense of nostalgia. I recommend "Honglou" where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the tranquil Tamsui River!
