Shennong StreetThe origin of the nameTainan Yaowang Temple」。
Tainan Yaowang TempleIt was built in 1685 and enshrines the Medicine King Emperor (Shennong Emperor).
The Great Emperor of Medicine is also known as the Great Emperor of Shennong or the First Emperor of Five Grains.
He tasted all kinds of grasses and conducted research on medicinal herbs.
The Shennong Ben Cao Jing, a classic text describing medicinal and poisonous plants, is considered the bible of traditional Chinese medicine.
He is revered as the patron deity of health and medicine, and also as the patron deity of agriculture because he taught people how to farm.
